Committee assignments
Day has been House chair of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary in every session since 2021–2022.[5] In the current 2025–2026 session he also sits on the House Committee on Ethics and the Special Joint Committee on Initiative Petitions.[2]
Legislative record
In its March 2025 announcement of his reappointment as Judiciary chair, Day's office said that in the previous session he "led the effort to successfully pass scores of landmark bills covering a variety of issues including a comprehensive update of state firearm safety laws, landmark protections for domestic violence survivors, extending full rights of parentage to LGBTQ+ families and a review of policies that will curb waste from excess packaging materials used in all products."[6]
The firearm law is Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024, "An Act modernizing firearm laws." A House–Senate conference committee reported its final version, H.4885, on July 17, 2024. The next day the House accepted it 124–33 and the Senate 35–5, and Gov. Maura Healey signed it on July 25, 2024.[7][8] Question 9 on the November 3, 2026 ballot asks voters whether to keep that law. A yes vote keeps it in place and a no vote repeals it.[9]
The bills Day has sponsored and cosponsored in each session since 2015 are listed on his legislature profile.[2]
