Stoneham Override Study Committee (2025)
On April 1, 2025, Stoneham voters rejected a $14.6 million Proposition 2½ override, 3,407 to 2,896.[9] Ternullo chaired Keep Stoneham Affordable for All, a local group that campaigned against that override.[10][11]
On June 24, 2025, the Select Board created an Override Study Committee to assess the town's needs before any new override vote.[12] Ternullo served on it as vice chair and as a resident representative.[9] At the committee's July 22, 2025 meeting, he read a statement noting that his role as chair of Keep Stoneham Affordable for All "was clearly disclosed in his letter of interest provided to the Select Board for this committee," in the words of the minutes.[10]
At the committee's August 26, 2025 meeting, Ternullo moved to table votes on the need for an override, its amount and its timeframe. The motion failed; he and one other member voted yes. On the vote on the overall need for an override, the minutes record "No - Mr. Ternullo; all else yes." Eight members were present, so the committee found a need for an override 7–1.[13]
The committee's final report includes a letter from Ternullo dated September 29, 2025:[9]
"While I appreciate the work and effort that went into the committee's deliberations, I must respectfully state for the record that I do not agree with its conclusions or recommendation. … My position remains that Stoneham should not move forward with the proposed override. I believe the financial impact on our residents would be too great, and I want to ensure that my views are clearly distinguished from the committee's final recommendation."
The Select Board then put two override questions before voters at a special town election on December 9, 2025:[14]
| Question | Yes | No | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Question 1: $12,500,000 override | 3,600 | 3,643 | Not approved |
| Question 2: $9,300,000 override | 4,001 | 3,274 | Approved |
Turnout was 7,297 of 18,235 registered voters (40.02%).[14]
